Abby's Lesson

I sketched this in the middle of the night this past week. I decided to bring her to life (so to speak). She is becoming a collaged painting on wood. I've been gluing and painting like mad. I've searched through magazines and cut out hands and feet. I've changed up this and that from the original sketch. I wasn't happy with the background I had started with and redid the top portion after having already glued some buttons down. Using mod podge to glue a button to wood is an excellent idea, but only if you don't want it to come off. Compromise. A new idea forms. My every free moment is being consumed by this piece. I took today off from my day job to work on her. Why?! I have no idea...but it feels good to see her take on color and shape. I have learned many lessons and grabbed the wrong bottle a couple times. And I've found my fingers often work much better than a paint brush. I am having so much fun with "Abby's Lesson". I have no idea what I will do iwth her. Any suggestions?

hi tess! i can feel your excitement just by reading your post!! it sounds like you've had a great time gluing and painting with your fingers (i agree, they're much better than using a brush!)....and most of all, discovering lots of new ways to do things!! "abby's lesson" sounds like it's been "tess' journey"! and what to do with her? i would hang it front and center where you can see it and be reminded of how you loved making it so much that you took the day off from work!! :)

Hi Lori, Thanks for the comment. Oh yes it's been a journey. I found red ink pen maeks great dots but...ink over modpodge has nothing to sink into and it doesn't dry. I;ve got a few red spots on my hands and a few smears. I covered them up pretty good I think. Oh I want to show it so bad but promised myself not too until finished. (I should have been taking pics all along but forgot.) I can't fugure out what to do with the sides. Or the back of the wood. hmmm.....

Hi Tess,
I think it's marvelous that you're having such fun with Abby's Lesson. Like all your creations, she's a part of you...reflecting aspects of you in some way. YOu'll know what to do with her when the time is right; but now, the most important thing is the journey and sounds like you're thoroughly in it! Oh, you can always ask Abby what you should do (or not do) with her. I"m sure she'll tell you in one way or another - much like the way my SoulCollage cards speak to me at www.acapellasoul.blogspot.com. Keep enjoying Abbey..and the journey.

And..I agree w/Lori..put her where you can see her!

Thanks for coming by my blog.
:) Cheryl

P.S. She got you up in the middle of the night for a reason, huh? Ask her what she has to tell you/give you - just a thought.

Hi, Tess! It is so much fun to be so inspired that you just HAVE to work on a piece! And, sometimes with art, it isn't the finished product ... it is the process that has meaning. The journey. The experimentation. The discovery. Hope you have sooooo much fun! :-)

Love that you stayed home for this. Sometimes we need that immersion into our art to get it all out:) I think your idea board is awesome. I wish I could be that organized with my pieces. You could collage the sides and back with vintage text and then seal it with ModPodge. I can't wait to see your finished piece sweetie! Love, Jamie
